The Watershed
![]() |
The Bear River watershed comprises three states. The green lines represent approximate forest and vegetative communities that comprise the biological corridor link connecting the northern and southern Rocky Mountains. |
The Bear River watershed begins in the high country of Utah in the Uinta Mountains at nearly 13,000 ft. The Bear River then crosses state boundaries five times traveling through three states; Southwest Wyoming, Southeast Idaho and finally ending it's journey back in Utah draining into the dead sea, Great Salt Lake at 4,2111 ft. The Bear River is the largest stream in the western hemisphere that does not empty into the ocean and is the largest tributary to the Great Salt Lake.
During it's journey the Bear River slices through the Bear River Mountain range known for it's regionally important biological corridor that critically links the northern and southern Rocky Mountains.
