MUD's AREAS OF CONCERN |
The following photos are pulled from our current inventory of motorized impacts. We feel that the impacts are severe enough to highlight them on this page either because of their location, vegetation impacts, visual severity, water quality and watershed issues.
If you would like to identify areas of concerns involving Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) use in the Bear River Mountains. Download our Area of Concern (PDF) easy form, fill out the information, send it in and our MUD coordinator will dispatch a trained data collector to the site. |

Providence Canyon
This severely impacted area is approximately 1/2 mile east of the FS/DWR boundary. The impacted area is approximately 1/2 mile in length. Within the area are 15 entry points, 59 intersections, 6 hill climbing areas and 4 stream crossings. The fire rings haven't been counted. The area is heavily impacted with trash, hill climbing, rutting, vegetation impacts, bare soil, fire rings. We have attempted to walk every route "tracking" with a GPS unit and all impact points haven't been photographed (these photos are examples). |

Millville Canyon
This "mudding" area is of serious concern. "Mudding" is where drivers speed through a wet bog throwing mud up the side of their vehicle.

Peter Sinks
This old gravel pit is being used as a "playground" and we consider this "amusement" and not outdoor recreation. |

Upper Spawn Creek N.
This meadow is seriously impacted. The pooling of rain is common. Routes extend beyond the Travel Plan with no signs or directions. See Temple Mountain and Upper Spawn Creek for photos within this same area of concern. |

Steep Hollow unauthorized #1
This illegal route is being heavily used and pushes into sensitive alpine meadows.
Ineffective barriers at the end of FR 289 allows OHV travel between barriers. There was no signage in the spring of 2004 with severe rutting and erosion along the route. |

Richardson Fork
An illegal, pioneered route to Cheney Spring. Eight OHVs were playing and riding through wet meadows on this illegal route. (images 40.jpg - 33.jpg) |

Upper Millville/unauthorized #4
An illegal lean-to has been constructed on an illegal route in upper Millville Canyon. The trash needs to be removed and the lean-to destroyed. (see images 0030 - 0034)
This lean-to and trash have been removed during a joint effort by BRWC and the FS during National Public Lands Day on September 24, 2005. See our thank you to volunteers. |

Upper Millville/unauthorized #4
Several miles of illegal routes in the upper portion of Millville Canyon. A spur of this route is being pushed (constructed) south into South Fork Millville Canyon to create a loop. Barriers and signs need to be placed ASAP on both ends.
