Prestigious Award Presented to BRWC

Logan, UT - The Bridgerland Audubon Society (BAS) announced the recipient of their Allen Stokes Conservation Award, Friday, April 28, 2006, during their annual banquet. Bridgerland Audubon presented this year's prestigious award to Bear River Watershed Council's Executive Director, Dan Miller.

The award was acknowledging Miller's work in BRWC's Motorized Use Data Project (MUD). Project MUD trains and sends volunteers into our National Forests to document motorized impacts such as unauthorized roads, severe rutting, dispersed camping damage, and intrusions into wilderness areas. Volunteers take digital photos and GPS (Global Positioning System) waypoints, and BRWC compiles the information and uses it to address issues with the local Ranger District.

Conservation Director for BAS, Bryan Dixon said that, "Dan's work is making a difference. People and agencies are taking notice and his work was worthy of recognition."

BRWC is working on the premise that volunteers can "Witness the Impacts, Document Them, and Make a Difference."

"Pictures do not lie and the power in truth will bring change," Miller said. "The birds, forests, and the rivers have no voice. Project MUD's photos are their voice and we will continue to speak on their behalf," Miller added.

"We're obviously very grateful to Bridgerland Audubon and extremely proud of Dan for all the good work he has done as our Executive Director," said Tim Wagner, Board Chair of BRWC. "Dan has turned Project MUD into THE TOOL for addressing irresponsible ORV use on our forests."
